Week 6 - SANM 560

I started working on my first drafts for my VFX shot, the ball kick towards the camera. I already had the Unreal environment, so I needed to add in the ball asset, match the camera to the backplate footage, and animate the ball being kicked towards the camera. With Unreal I wanted the proper lighting and reflections to be in place but not be rendered at the end. I struggled to find ways to figure out how properly do this as all options that hid the object from the camera, also hid the object from the scene. (akin to Maya's primary visibility setting) I then tried to put some sort of green screen behind the ball so after rendering I could pull a clean key. But I could not get the material to not receive any shadows from the rest of the scene so it was a bad key as well as turning off giving reflections to other objects so there was a lot of spill on the ball anyways. Despite these issues I went ahead and added in preliminary animations and movements to test the workflow and process of how I would get this shot done. I set up my file in Nuke for compositing and then in DaVinci Resolve for the video dailies. I also added a schedule tab to the spreadsheets so that if a team member missed class they can see what happened and all the notes for each class is in one spot.
